How to log a roast by hand

  1. Pick the coffee

From your beans if you're signed in, or type its name. Note the green weight before charge.

  2. Write the readings

A bean temperature each row. Heat and fan carry over, so type them only when you change them.

  3. Mark the moments

Yellow, first crack and drop, as 8:20 or 820, then the roasted weight.

Logged on paper? Type it in afterwards: the fields follow the printed roasting log template.

Questions

Do I need an account to log a roast?

No. Everything you type stays in your browser until you save or clear it. You only need a free account to save the roast and share it.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes, as well as on a computer: big boxes, the number keypad, and Next jumps to the next row's bean temperature. Times type as 820 for 8:20.

I logged on paper. Can I type it in later?

Yes. The fields match the printed roasting log template, so a filled-in sheet types straight in, with the roast date of your choice.

Which roasters does it work with?

Any roaster without logging software: Fresh Roast SR540 and SR800, Behmor, Gene Café, Hottop, drum roasters and popcorn poppers, each with its own control columns.

What do I get when I save a roast?

A page with the roast curve, rate of rise, phases, development time and weight loss, a card to post, and the coffee's green stock updated. Private until you share it.

How accurate is the curve from readings every 30 seconds?

Close enough to compare roasts: the curve is drawn straight between your readings, and first crack and drop temperatures pin it where you know them.

I use Artisan or a Roest. Do I need this?

No: they log the roast for you. Open it in the Artisan or Roest log viewer instead.
